Peru and Ecuador meet Wednesday night in the 2016 Copa America at University of Phoenix Stadium.
Peru looks for another big victory after beating Haitai 1-0 in its opening match. Peru dominated the match from start to finish as it allowed just one shot on target and was aggressive on the offensive end until Paolo Guerrero scored the game-winning goal in the second half. Peru produced 10 shots total and is always a scary match when Guerrero is in attack mode, which he was in the victory, as he also became the top goalscorer in Peru history. After picking up three key points, now isn’t the time for Peru to get complacent, as it needs to stay aggressive on the offensive end and try to get greedy in the standings.

Ecuador was forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against Brazil in its opening match. However, the match didn’t end without controversy, as Miller Bolanos did find the back of the net but the goal was ruled no good due to the ball being out of bounds. After replay, I think it’s quite clear that Ecuador was robbed. Either way, Ecuador is capable of playing better, as it controlled the ball for just 30 percent of the match and had just one shot on target. Ecuador is a team with a bunch of offensive talent and should be able to impose its will a little bit more than it did against Brazil. I expect Jefferson Montero and Enner Valencia to have bigger impacts and create more scoring opportunities for Ecuador moving forward.
Both of these teams played pretty well in their opening match, but it’s Ecuador that is capable of so much more. Ecuador is capable of really exploding offensively and will likely play this match with a chip on its shoulder after the shenanigans that took place in the last match. Also, let’s not forget that Peru could have easily allowed Hatai back in the match if a couple of missed shots reached its mark.
I like Ecuador to win this match.
