Panama and Argentina meet late Friday night in the 2016 Copa America at Soldier Field.
Panama hopes to pull off another shocker after beating Bolivia, 2-1, in its opening match. Panama was able to survive a physical and chippy match that included 43 fouls and seven yellow cards. In the victory, Panama came away with 15 shots total and six of those were on target. Blas Perez was clearly the star of the match as he attempted six shots and scored both goals, while Alberto Quintero had one shot on goal and an assist. If Panama can continue to be that aggressive on the offensive end throughout the tournament, there’s a potential sleeper team here. Panama is in Copa America for the first time ever and will be able to play this match with a little less pressure and more confidence given its place in the standings.

Argentina also won its opening match with a 2-1 victory over Chile. Argentina controlled the match from start to finish despite allowing a goal to Jose Fuenzalida in stoppage time. Argentina was able to get 17 hits total and five on target, as Angel Di Maria and Ever Banega were the two players who found the back of the net. Sergio Romero also put on a show with five saves and keeping the offensive attack to a minimum. Argentina played without Lionel Messi due to an injury, but Gerardo Martino said he does expect his star to play in this match. Overall, Argentina handled its business and got off to a much needed fast start, as this team is hungry for some major success after a couple of letdowns over the years. With Messi back on the field, things obviously get scarier for opposing teams.
You have to give Panama credit for coming away with a nice win in its first match but this contest won’t end well. Argentina is too deep, too talented and too aggressive on the offensive end for Panama to keep up. Panama is not the team that’s built for coming back and this match could get ugly if they get down early.
Argentina should be able to take care of business and get one step closer to getting out of the group stages.
