Ecuador and Haiti square off Sunday afternoon in the 2016 Copa America at MetLife Stadium.
Ecuador settled for another draw after a 2-2 finish against Peru. Ecuador, a team that is still a favorite to make it out of the group stages, was able to bounce back after being down 0-2 in the first 13 minutes. Enner Valencia and Miller Bolanos managed to score within 10 minutes to tie the game and get a point in the standings. Ecuador had 18 shots overall and six of those shots were on target, while they also controlled the ball for 56.1 percent of the match. Ecuador has played well this tournament but has to have better awareness on the defensive end, as it got caught sleeping at times. Ecuador will be without Gabriel Achilier for this match, who received a red card in stoppage time.

Haiti is playing for pride in this match after getting thumped in its second match against Brazil, 1-7. Haiti allowed 20 shots overall and 13 of those were on target, while it controlled the ball just 34.6 percent of the match. It was just an offensive onslaught that kept Haiti on its heels from start to finish and produced a 0-3 deficit heading into halftime. The good news for Haiti is that James Marcelin was able to find the back of the net to prevent the shutout and Johny Placide did come away with six saves to prevent even more of a blowout. Haiti is a team that plays hard despite a lack of overall talent, so despite being the first team eliminated from Copa America, you should expect a club that plays hard to the end and wants to end things on a positive note.
Ecuador is still playing for a chance to advance and puts itself in great position by winning this match. Haiti isn’t great offensively, so an Ecuador team that shutout Brazil, should be able to get the job done here and produce just enough to escape with the three points.
Haiti isn’t going to roll over despite playing for very little, but it won’t be enough when it’s all said and done.
