Arsenal versus Chelsea
English Premier League Soccer: February 7, 2010 11:00 AM ET
This was the big match of the EPL weekend and it was important for both teams. For Chelsea it was putting them back on top of Manchester United, as for Arsenal it was crucial to get all three points in order to stay in the title race. The resulting 90 min only proved one thing; Diddier Drogba has Arsenal’s number. His brace in the first half sealed the Gunners fait; his goal record is now an astounding 12 in 12. Poor defensive marking and the likes of Theo Walcott, Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas unable to impose themselves on the Chelsea rear guard were the main reasons for Arsenal’s poor performance. As for Chelsea, other then Drogba keeper Cech was the star of the show. He made key saves throughout the game, the kick save against Arshavin to preserve the clean sheet comes to mind. He commanded his area on set pieces and had good communication with his back four.
This result surly takes Arsenal out of the title race now switching their attention to the Champions League. The premier league title race is now between Chelsea and Man Utd. This win puts the Blues one point above the Red Devils and back as king of the hill.
