Manchester City Vs. Chelsea 02/27/10 Kamal’s Free Pick and Preview: English Premier League Soccer

Saturday’s fixture lists opens up with the intriguing match up of John Terry’s Chelsea hosting Wayne Bridge’s Manchester City. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the “Situation” occurred.

Chelsea is coming off an emotional champions league game versus Inter Milan, even though they lost the first leg 2-1 they preformed quite well and will look to carry that form into this premier league game Vs. Manchester City. A bigger problem that Chelsea face is the injuries to their squad, without the likes of Ashley Cole and Yury Zhirkov for the long term they can now add keeper Petr Cech to the list after he tore his calf in the aforementioned Champions League game. It is confirmed that Hilario will fill play in goal and Florent Malouda will continue at left back. Key players for the Blues will be an in form Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and John Obi Mikel.

As for the Citizens, they are coming off a 0-0 draw versus Liverpool in the last round of fixtures and are in a four-way battle with the Reds, Spurs and Villa for the fourth place. Striker Emmanuel Adebayor will miss this game due to suspension, joining him in the stands will be Martin Petrov, Vincent Kompany and Michael Johnson all out due to injury. Man City’s key players are Carlos Tevez, who is back from companionate leave after the complicated birth of his child. Other key players are midfielder Nigel De Jong and keeper Shay Given.

This game is poised to be very open and entertaining, the team that can win the midfield battles and take advantage of gaps out wide and behind the defense will have the better chance of wining the game.

Kamal’s Prediction: I like Chelsea as slight favorites in this game, Man City has a habit of being defensively fragile against the top teams in the league.
