Borussia Dortmund Vs. Hamburg SV 02/09/13
Kamal’s Free German Bundesliga Soccer Pick and Preview
These are two sides that are coming off significant fixtures last time out, Dortmund managing to come out on top in a entertaining 3-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen that saw them overtake their opposition for second place in the table while Hamburg lost 2-0 to an Eintracht Frankfurt side that have been the surprise of the season and thus losing slight ground on their chase for European competition next season. Dortmund will feel confident in their abilities after managing to come from two goals down against Leverkusen, however it will be interesting to see how Coach Jurgen Klopp sets out his side for this match with one eye clearly on their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 First Leg tie and a subsequent trip to Donetsk, Ukraine to take on Shakhtar Donetsk. With the club pretty much out of the race for a Bundesliga Shield three peat the main focus has become UEFA Champions League, Dortmund have learned from their mistakes during last seasons competition and have a tough test on their hands against Shakhtar. The key aspect of this match is how Hamburg goes about breaking down the Dortmund midfield unit; the onus will be on midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart as well as forwards Heung-Min Son and Artjoms Rudņevs to use speed and movement to create gaps in a midfield consisting of any combination of Jakub Błaszczykowski, Sven Bender, Mario Gotze, Marco Reus, İlkay Gündoğan and Nuri Sahin.
This is a tough one to call for the simple fact that although Dortmund is the logical pick I believe they’ll have more than one eye on their UEFA Champions League clash, that said my pick is Hamburg against the spread as I also believe Hamburg are a solid defensive side that are amongst the top in the league.
Kamal's Pick: Hamburg SV +1.5 (+115)
