Honduras Vs. Mexico 03/22/13: Kamal’s Free CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Soccer Pick and Preview

Mexico travel to San Pedro Sula for a CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier against Honduras

The World Cup Qualifying phase continues this week with more matches from the CONCACAF regions hexagonal round, this match sees Mexico look to bounce back from an opening round home draw against Jamaica when they travel to San Pedro Sula to play a Honduras side in a good frame of mind after defeating USA last time out.

Both of these teams will think of themselves as a favored side to go through and qualify for the Brazil 2014, in the case of Mexico why’ve been the kings of CONCACAF with quality performances at all levels while Honduras are a growing side that will feel they have what it take to get the job done following their 2-1 win against USA. The Mexicans under coach José Manuel de la Torre will see this as a vital game to get three points from even though the match is in the harsh environment that is San Pedro Sula, the combination of them dropping points at home against Jamaica and playing rivals USA at home puts them in this interesting scenario. The squad named for this match is a mixture of youth, experience and star names; the most notable names in the squad are Manchester United’s Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, Valencia’s Andres Guardado and AC Ajaccio’s Guillermo Ochoa however some of the other names to watch are Vilarreal’s Javier Aquino, Pachuca’s Hector Herrera and Club America’s Raúl Jiménez. In the case of Honduras under coach Luis Fernando Suárez they’ve established a solid core of players in or near their peaks and are headlined by New England Revolution’s Jerry Bengston, Houston Dynamo’s Oscar Boniek Garcia and Seattle Sounders Mario Martinez but the players to watch will be in defence through fullbacks Emilio Izaguirre and Arnold Peralta as well as central defenders Victor Bernardez.

I’m going to lean towards the OVER in this match, Honduras will make this a tough and cagey game and will look to depend on their home support in San Pedro Sula but Mexico will look to rebound from their home draw against Jamaica by pressing the action whenever possible.
