2014 French Open: Saturday, June 7, 2014 (Stade Roland Garros)

TV:

Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal will square off in the 2014 French Open semifinal.

For the second time in three matches, Murray was pushed to five sets, as he let Gael Monfils come from behind and almost win the match in front of his hometown fans. Still, Murray prevailed and returns to the French Open semifinal for just the second time in his career. Murray has never played in a French Open final before. Murray has looked a little shaky in this tournament at times, needing 20 sets to get through the first five matches, but he’s stepped up when he’s needed to and has shown signs of being the Murray we witnessed pre-surgery. At this point you just wonder if fatigue is a factor considering all of the sets he’s played in his last three matches.

Andy Murray vs. Rafael Nadal 2014 French Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Nadal is just one win away from returning to his fifth straight French Open final and hasn’t had to work very hard to make it happen. Nadal lost his first set of the tournament when facing David Ferrer, but he bounced back in a big way by allowing just one game in the final two sets. Nadal is clearly looking to make history and looks almost unbeatable with the way he’s been playing. He’s not making many errors and is making everything look so easy. Nadal will be in great shape heading into this match considering he’s played only 16 sets.

Nadal has won 14 of the 20 matches he’s played against Murray in his career and has won all five matches they’ve played on clay. However, Murray has won two of the last three meetings against Nadal, but keep in mind that two of those wins came in 2012 and 2011, respectively.

These two met in the quarterfinal of the Rome Masters this year and it went the distance. However, I’m not exactly sold on Murray and the amount of tennis he’s played leading up to this match does concern me a bit.

I look for Nadal to roll and win this match while covering the spread. He’s just simply unstoppable on this court.
