The Line: Novak Djokovic See the Latest Odds
Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will play in the fourth round of the 2014 Wimbledon.
Djokovic scared much of the tennis world in his match against Gilles Simon when he fell on his shoulder and looked to be in a great deal of pain. However, he was able to finish the rest of the match and win quite easily in three sets. Djokovic hasn’t been nearly as dominant as he has been in the past, but that still seems good enough to win nine of his first 10 sets pretty convincingly. He’s still leaving the door open a little bit for his opponents to make things interesting. Djokovic has reached at least the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon in five straight years.

Tsonga finally made it easy on himself by winning his match against Jimmy Wang in three sets. Tsonga’s previous two matches in this tournament were decided in five sets, giving Djokovic a huge advantage as far as rest is concerned. Tsonga has reached at least the quarterfinals in three of his last four trips to the Wimbledon, but he hasn’t been his usual self lately, getting bounced in the fourth round or earlier in his last four Grand Slams. He’ll have to play a clean game in this match to have any chance of turning things around.
These two players have a lengthy history with Djokovic winning 12 of their last 18 previous matches. While it may seem like Tsonga is more than capable of pulling off the upset, he hasn’t beaten Djokovic since the 2011 Paris Masters, meaning Djokovic has won their last eight meetings. Djokovic has also beaten Tsonga in their only two matches on grass.
Tsonga is more than capable of keeping this close, but he hasn’t been himself the last year or so. Djokovic also has a huge advantage by getting his matches done a lot quicker, while Tsonga has already played 13 sets in three matches.
Give me Djokovic to cover the spread.
