Tommy Robredo vs. Roger Federer 2014 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

2014 Wimbledon: Monday, July 1, 2014 (London)

The Line: Roger Federer See the Latest Odds

Tommy Robredo and Roger Federer will square off once again at a Grand Slam, this time at the 2014 Wimbledon.

Robredo survived a lengthy five set match to eliminate Jerzy Janowicz and move onto the fourth round. This is the furthest Robredo has ever reached in the Wimbledon, but shouldn’t be a surprise to most tennis fans. Robredo has improved his game lately and is starting to perform better in Grand Slams. Robredo is a lot more consistent and has now reached at least the fourth round in four of his last six Grand Slam events. Robredo is getting off to quicker starts having won the first two sets in his last two matches, and he’ll need a similar start if he wants to pull off another upset.

Tommy Robredo vs. Roger Federer 2014 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

Federer has swept his first three opponents in fairly easy fashion, and his most recent win came against Santiago Giraldo. Winning all nine sets is important for somebody like Federer, who isn’t the same at 32 years old as he was a few years ago. Federer needs to put his opponents away quickly to have a chance to win another Grand Slam, and he’s doing just that so far. Federer looks confident on the court and is making very few errors, as his last match was decided in less than an hour and a half. However, Federer has been eliminated in the fourth round in two of his last three Grand Slams.

These two have played each other 11 times and Federer has won 10 of those matches. But Robredo won their most recent match in last year’s U.S. Open, a match that was over in three sets. This will be the sixth straight time the two have met in a Grand Slam, but it’s the first time they will play one another on grass.

While Robredo is playing solid tennis and should have the confidence that he can beat Federer again, I look at experience and fatigue. Federer has had plenty of rest and has many big matches under his belt, while Robredo is still wet behind the ears and hasn’t been on this stage before.
