The Line: Andy Murray See the Latest Odds
Grigor Dimitrov and Andy Murray will meet in the 2014 Wimbledon quarterfinals.
It’s clear that Dimitrov is starting to separate himself from the rest of the younger tennis players, as the 23-year-old has reached his second Grand Slam quarterfinal of the season. He has yet to reach a semifinal, but this is by far his best season of his tennis career. Dimitrov has won 12 of 15 sets to get to this point and his most recent victory over Leonardo Mayer came in straight sets. Dimitrov has an all-around game, the competitive spirit and has had tennis fans wondering when he would put it all together. This match will tell us just how close Dimitrov is to becoming the next superstar of the sport.

Although Kevin Anderson pushed Murray to a tiebreak, the No. 5 player in the world has yet to lose a set in this year’s tournament. Murray is starting to look like the player of old, as he made only 12 errors and hit 49 winners in his victory over Anderson. The back seems to be fine. Murray has now reached the quarterfinals in 14 straight Grand Slams he’s participated in. Of course, the Wimbledon is Murray’s favorite court, and he’s reached at least the semifinals in five straight years. He’s a tough out as long as he continues to play at this level.
These two have played one another four times and Murray leads the series, 3-1. However, Dimitrov did win their recent meeting in this year’s Acapulco, a match that went the distance. This will be the first time these two have met on grass.
It’s no secret that Murray should win this match, but I put nothing past Dimitrov, who can beat just about anybody if he brings his A-game and can keep his nerves under control. I expect a match that is decided in four or five sets, as this could potentially be Dimitrov’s coming out party.
Give me Dimitrov and the points, as he’ll keep this match dangerously close.
