Marin Cilic vs. Novak Djokovic 2014 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

2014 Wimbledon: Tuesday, July 2, 2014 (London)

The Line: Novak Djokovic See the Latest Odds

Marin Cilic and Novak Djokovic will meet in the 2014 Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Although Jo-Wilfried Tsonga forced a tiebreak and played decent tennis, Djokovic won in three sets and has now won 12 of 13 sets to get to this point. Despite a few hiccups here and there, Djokovic has pretty much cruised through this tournament and hopes to reach the semifinal of the Wimbledon for the third time in five years. Djokovic has reached at least the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam in 21 straight events and has been eliminated in the quarterfinals just once in the last four years. As usual, it’s going to take an incredible effort for anybody to top Djokovic when he’s in top form.

Marin Cilic vs. Novak Djokovic 2014 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

Cilic continues his improbable run in this tournament and with a win over Jeremy Chardy in straight sets, Cilic is now the furthest he has ever been in the Wimbledon. This is the first Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance for Cilic in a Grand Slam since the 2012 U.S. Open and just the third quarterfinal appearance in his career. Of course, Cilic made this run possible with the monster upset over Tomas Berdych in the third round. Cilic must continue to serve at an elite level if he plans on pulling off another upset and advancing to the semifinals for the first time ever.

This two have played nine times in the past and Djokovic has won all nine matches. That includes two meetings already this year with the most recent coming in the French Open, a match that was decided in four sets. This will be the first time these two have played one another on grass. Overall in nine matches, Cilic has won just four sets.

We see magical runs in Grand Slams every year and eventually they come to an end. Well, this is the end for Cilic. He has had very little success against Djokovic in his career and doesn’t have enough in the tank to top a laser focused Djokovic, who hasn’t really had to work yet in any of his matches.

I like Djokovic to win in three sets.
