Lucie Safarova vs. Petra Kvitova 2014 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

2014 Wimbledon: Thursday, July 3, 2014 (London)

The Line: Petra Kvitova -260 See the Latest Odds

TV: ESPN

Lucie Safarova and Petra Kvitova will play Thursday for a spot in the 2014 Wimbledon final.

It may be safe to say that Safarova has turned the corner in her tennis career, as this is now the furthest she has ever gotten in a Grand Slam event. She’s clearly building off her decent French Open success and what’s amazing is the fact she has yet to lose a set. Safarova’s most recent match against Ekaterina Makarova needed just 16 games, and she’s needed just four tiebreaks to advance to this point in the tournament. Of course, grass isn’t Safarova’s most preferred surface, but she’s a threat against anybody as long as she continues to hit clean winners like she has all tournament.

Lucie Safarova vs. Petra Kvitova 2014 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Kvitova is no stranger to success at the Wimbledon, as she won the tournament in 2011 and has now reached the semifinal in three of the last five years. Kvitova has also breezed through much of the tournament, as the only set she lost came against Venus Williams in the third round. Other than that, Kvitova has been rock solid, including her most recent match against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, which needed just 19 games to be decided. As long as Kvitova can continue to limit her unforced errors, she has a very good shot of winning her second Grand Slam title of her career.

These two have played five times in the past and Kvitova has won all five matches, including their most recent match at this year’s Eastbourne, which was decided in three sets. That match tells a lot considering it was played on grass. However, these two should be very familiar with one another considering this will be the fifth meeting against one another this year. The other time they ran into each other was back in 2012.

There’s very little value in taking Kvitova to win, which is why I’m siding with the over. Two of the last four matches between these two have gone three sets and four of the last eight sets have needed a tiebreak to be decided.

These are two high risk, high reward players who are sure to make mistakes at times and allow the opponent back in the match. This is going three sets and the over will hit.
