The Line: Nick Kyrgios See the Latest Odds
Milos Raonic and Nick Kyrgios will meet in an improbable 2014 Wimbledon quarterfinals match.
Raonic being here shouldn’t really be a surprise to anyone, as he’s been making a name for himself for quite some time and was bound to take that next step. This is his second straight quarterfinal appearance in a Grand Slam, but he’s never surpassed this mark. Raonic has won 12 of 13 sets to get to this point and showed great resilience by winning three straight sets after losing the first in his match against Kei Nishikori. Despite that match that took four sets and a tiebreak, Raonic has simply cruised through this tournament and should be well rested for this match. Getting to a Grand Slam semifinal has now become the next step for the 23-year-old.

Kyrgios has now become the surprise of the tournament by sending home Rafael Nadal in four sets. Kyrgios won two tiebreaks and dominated the final set to pull off probably the biggest win of his young career. Everybody knew Kyrgios was a rising star, but keep in mind that this is his first Wimbledon, he’s only 19 years old and has never surpassed the second round of a Grand Slam until now. Kyrgios is an extremely confident kid and has the skill set to prove that Tuesday’s victory was no fluke. It’s going to be interesting to see if there’s a letdown factor in this match.
These two players have met just once in the past, as Raonic won this year’s French Open match in three painless sets. Obviously, this will be the first time they have met on grass.
Strictly for the value we’re likely going to get, I’m going to try my luck once again with Kyrgios. Only this time I’m picking the young guy to win instead of taking the points.
Yes, I am concerned with a letdown, but Kyrgios has no fear and never seems like the stage is too big. He’s simply ahead of his time. And it’s not like Raonic has a ton of Grand Slam success under his belt.
Take Kyrgios to keep this magical run alive.
