The Line: Roger Federer See the Latest Odds
Milos Raonic and Roger Federer will square off in the 2014 Wimbledon seminal.
Federer has reached his second Grand Slam semifinal of the year, but hasn’t reached a final since the 2012 Wimbledon. Federer has certainly given himself a change that due to quick matches throughout the tournament. The first time he lost a set was his most recent match against Stanislas Wawrinka, a match that took 42 games to be decided. Other than that, Federer has cruised through the tournament and looks to be in terrific for the first time in quite a while. He’s hitting the ball well and is making very few errors, resulting in quick matches. Considering Raonic is nearly 10 years younger, the quick matches may end up paying off for this match.

Raonic will be playing his first Grand Slam semifinal match of his young career, as the furthest he previously reached was the quarterfinal in this year’s French Open. Raonic put an end to the improbable run from Nick Kyrgios in four sets as he came back from dropping the first set. Raonic is proving to be a serving machine and is hitting the ball extremely well. He’s making all of his shots and is probably playing his best tennis we’ve ever seen so far. Raonic is clearly on a mission to make this his breakout season and could continue just that with a win in this match.
These two have played each other four times in the past and Federer has won all four meetings. The most recent match came in the 2013 Australian Open, a match that Fed won three sets. However, despite that one match, the other three went the distance, including a 2012 match in Halle, their only previous meeting on grass.
I may surprise you with this pick, but I like Raonic to get the victory. He’s young, he hits the ball extremely well and will likely overwhelm an older Federer who has been past his prime for quite some time.
Yes, Federer is the more experienced player and will be a feel good story as he tries to win one more Grand Slam. But he’s old and had trouble with Wawrinka, who was playing his third match in as many days. I like Raonic and the plus money we’re likely to get just makes things that much better.

I have to respectfully disagree with your pick for a couple reasons. One Milos has great serve you are right. However he does not posses the ability to hit angled shots like federer that will open up the court. It will be interesting how Federer uses the slice on a low bouncing grass court against a tall guy who hits flat. I think Fed will force him into unforced errors. Also I think Fed will rush net and try to make Raonic pass him. We will see how succesful he is at that. I also do think you undermind Wawrinka. Yes he played 3 in 3 days. Luckily his first two were straight sets. I think it had an effect, but he is indeed the number 3 in the world. I think the only way raonic will win will be to hold his serve (which that is good betting odds), but then he is going to need to hit those flat hard ground strokes at a high percentage off of a player who will be throwing so many spins and angles at him. Personally, I think its safe to say 4 set Fed win, possible 5 set. No disrespect to Raonic, he is a great young player, I just couldn't put my money on that, especially when you do lack of experience on this stage.
