Novak Djokovic and Philipp Kohlschreiber will meet in the fourth round of the 2014 US Open.

At nearly 31 year’s old, Philipp Kohlschreiber is proving he still has a little something left in the tank by easing his way into the fourth round of the US Open for the third straight season. Kohlschreiber’s most recent victory was a four set match against John Isner, a match that he controlled for much of the match and won three tiebreaks. In the victory, Kohlschreiber had 13 aces, hit 55 winners and won 73 percent of his net points. After experiencing a retired Michael Llodra in the second round, Philipp Kohlschreiber should be in great shape entering this match and fatigue shouldn’t be an issue. This hasn’t exactly been Kohlschreiber’s best season after early exits in nearly every tournament he’s participated in, but he’s held his own through his first three matches here. Kohlschreiber has reached the quarterfinals of a major just once in his career, which was the 2012 Wimbledon.

Novak Djokovic vs. Philipp Kohlschreiber 2014 US Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

Novak Djokovic hasn’t even come close to dropping a set in his first three matches, playing just 72 games heading into this battle. Djokovic’s most recent win came against Sam Querrey, a match where he lost just seven games. In the victory, Djokovic won 70 percent of his net points, 75 percent of his first serve points and hit 25 winners. While Novak Djokovic would probably like a little more consistent speed on his first serve, there’s not too much to complain about the way he’s played so far in this tournament. Djokovic is the favorite for a reason and has provided no reason to shy away from that just yet. The last time Djokovic didn’t reach at least a quarterfinal of a major was the 2009 French Open.

These two have played four times in the past and Novak Djokovic leads the series, 3-1. Their most recent meeting was in this year’s Rome Masters, a match that Djo won in three sets. Philipp Kohlschreiber’s lone win over Djokovic came in the 2009 French Open. This will be the third time these two have played on hard court.

Until Djokovic shows some of the shakiness he had heading into the US Open, you have to keep riding him and expecting him to blow his opponents out of the water. This should be another painless match.
