Sara Errani and Caroline Wozniacki meet in an improbable 2014 US Open quarterfinal matchup.

It hasn’t been 100 percent easy for Sara Errani, but she’s been able to survive her last two matches, with her most recent win coming in three sets against Mirjana Lucic-Baroni. In the victory, Errani managed to get 90 percent of her first serves in play, win 67 of her break point chances and just have nine unforced errors. Despite hitting only four winners and not having a single ace, Errani has proven to be a fighter in this tournament and will continue to find ways to win at all costs even if it isn’t always pretty. This is the second major quarterfinals appearance for Sara Errani this year, and she’s hoping to return to the semifinals of the US Open for the second time in three years.

Sara Errani vs. Caroline Wozniacki 2014 US Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Caroline Wozniacki has to be one of the favorites to beat after defeating Maria Sharapova in three sets. Wozniacki was relentless in the victory, winning 73 percent of her net points, averaging a first serve speed of 100 mph and hitting 22 winners. Wozniacki was chasing down balls she probably shouldn’t have been able to get to and was frustrating probably the best female tennis player of this season. Caroline Wozniacki is clearly in top form and is more than capable of winning this year’s US Open. In fact, Wozniacki has been on a roll before this tournament, winning 17 of her last 20 matches, and two of those three losses came from Serena Williams. This is Wozniacki’s first major quarterfinal appearance since the 2012 Australian Open.

These two have met three times in the past, and Wozniacki leads the series, 2-1. However, their most recent meeting was in Beijing in 2010. All three matches between these two have been decided in straight sets and this will be the third time they have played on hard court.

While this is probably going to be a three set match and highly entertaining, I can’t go against Caroline Wozniacki after what she did to Sharapova. Errani has proven to be no slouch, but Wozniacki has been in a different zone and is clearly on a mission to win her first grand slam.
