Carla Suarez Navarro and Serena Williams will play Saturday afternoon in the Miami Masters Final.
This is probably the biggest match of Carla Suarez Navarro’s career, as the 26-year-old hasn’t had a ton of singles suess and here only title came last season in the Portugal Open. However, in this Miami Masters, Navarro has had great success, which includes winning three of her five matches in straight sets. Carla Suarez Navarro also beat some restable opponents to get to this point, which includes wins over Andrea Petkovic, Agnieszka Radwanska and Venus Williams. Navarro of course will be in over her head in this match, but she’s playing some of her best tennis of her career right now and could manage to stay in this match if she’s able to calm her nerves and limit her unforced errors. Carla Suarez Navarro has finished runner-up in seven of her single finals, but this is just her second on hard court.
It should be no surprise that Serena Williams has made it to the Finals, as she’s won the Miami Masters seven times, which includes the last two years. Serena usually thrives and plays her best in the states, and it certainly helps with this event being right near where she resides in her hometown of Palm Beach Gardens. Serena Williams feels right at home in the Miami Masters, which is why she’s breezed through this tournament for the most part. However, Serena has been a little shaky as of late in her last two matches, as Simona Halep and Sabine Lisicki each took her to three sets. Serena Williams has lost just one match since the WTA Championships, and it will take a mountain of a performance to end that streak on Saturday.
These two have played four times in the past, and Serena Williams has won all matches in straight sets, which includes a 2104 victory in the Madrid Masters. Carla Suarez Navarro has won just five points total in all of her matches against Serena.
Assuming Serena Williams is able to beat boredom and comes out to dominate, there’s no reason why she shouldn’t cover the spread. Look for a quick match and for Serena to win yet another title.
