Jack Sock and Rafael Nadal meet Monday in the fourth round of the 2015 French Open.
Jack Sock enters this match after a quick three set victory over Borna Coric. Sock has played just 10 sets overall and 71 games in his last two matches. Sock has won 81 percent or higher of his first serve points in two of his three matches and has 12 aces in his last two matches. While his second round match was extremely rocky, Sock has also had 18 or less unforced errors in two of his three matches. Sock is probably playing the best he’s ever played in a major, but must trim down his 24 double faults through his first three matches. Of course, this matchup is an extreme boost in competition, forcing Sock to take his game to another level, if he has one. This is the furthest Sock has even been in a major.

Rafael Nadal has yet to drop a set, which includes a victory over Andrey Kuznetsov that took just 24 games. Nadal Nadal has 64 winners in his last two matches and hasn’t even faced a tiebreak yet. While not very sharp on his first serve, Nadal has won 64 percent or higher on his second serve in two of his last three matches. Nadal has played no more than 28 games in a match so far and has six aces in his last two matches. Nadal is cruising but could be a lot better on his first serve and is coming off a match where he had 25 unforced errors. Nadal hasn’t been eliminated in the fourth round of the French Open since 2009, as he’s won this tournament five straight times.
These two have never faced each other in the past.
Sock is playing some brilliant tennis right now and should be able to build on this moving forward. However, it appears Sock is in over his head. Sock has just one career win over a Top 10 player (Kei Nishikori last year) and simply doesn’t have the tools to be the guy who’s going to snap Nadal’s streak at the French Open. Nadal is capable of playing a lot better and digging deep when it counts. I’m not sure Sock has that other gear just yet.
Should be a fun match that goes a little longer than expected, but you’d be foolish to bet against the king of clay.
