TV:

Andy Murray and David Ferrer will meet Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the 2015 French Open.

Andy Murray has dropped just two sets this tournament and is coming off a four-set match against Jeremy Chardy. Murray has played no more than 36 games in a single match and no tiebreaks. Murray has won at least 75 percent of his first serve points and has hit 80 combined winners in his last two matches. Murray has 28 or less unforced errors in three of his first four matches. Murray looks healthy and is playing with high confidence as he has yet to really be in trouble in a single match this tournament. Murray could improve on getting his first serve in play, and he does have nine double faults in his last three matches. Murray looks to reach his third French Open semifinal and first major semifinal since last year’s tournament.

Andy Murray vs. David Ferrer 2015 French Open, Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

David Ferrer has dropped two sets this tournament and is coming off a three-set victory over Marin Cilic. Ferrer has played 26 or less games in three of his four matches and has played zero tiebreaks. Ferrer has won at least 72 percent of his first serve points and has hit 60 winners in his last two matches. Ferrer has gotten no less than 58 percent of his first serves in play and has seven aces in his last two matches. Ferrer has done a good job of avoiding those drawn out matches that he usually gets himself in. Ferrer has done a good job of limiting his unforced errors, but he does have 18 double faults in this tournament. Ferrer looks to reach his seventh major semifinal and first since the 2013 French Open.

These two have played each other 15 times, and Murray has won nine of those meetings. Murray has won four of the last five meetings, including their most recent which was in Valencia in 2014. However, all four of Ferrer’s victories over Murray have come on clay, a surface Murray has not beaten him on yet.

This match should be very entertaining, but I think Ferrer has been playing better tennis this tournament and has the best win, which came against Cilic who was playing good tennis. Add that to the fact Ferrer is undefeated against Murray on clay, and I’m calling the upset.
