Novak Djokovic and Jarkko Nieminen meet Wednesday in the second round of the Wimbledon.
Novak Djokovic is coming off a two hour three-set victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber. Djokovic hit 12 aces, won 75 percent of his first serve points and had just 21 unforced errors. Djokovic was broken just twice and got 73 percent of his first serves in play. Djokovic had one double fault in the victor and won 71 percent of his net points. Djokovic is simply playing at another level and has shown very little to no weaknesses during this ridiculous run to become the best player in the world. There’s seriously very little an opponent can do to knock him off his game right now. Djokovic has not been eliminated in the second round of a grand slam since the 2008 Wimbledon.

Jarkko Nieminen is coming off a four hour, five-set match over Lleyton Hewitt. Nieminen got 68 percent of his first serves in play and won 66 percent of those points. Nieminen had 10 aces, 62 winners overall and won 63 percent of his net points. Nieminen played a solid match overall, including a 6-0 fourth set, but he’ll have to trim his 48 unforced errors if he’ll have any chance in this match. You also have to worry about fatigue, as Nieminen did a ton of running in his opening match. This is Nieminen’s last Wimbledon, as he’s retiring this season. Nieminen has been eliminated in the second round or earlier in 10 of his last 11 grand slam appearances.
This will be the seventh time these two have played, and Djokovic has won five of those meetings. The last time these two played was in this year’s French Open, a match Djokovic won in straight sets. Nieminen’s only win over Djokovic came in Sydney back in 2009. This will be the first time these two have met on grass.
You’d be a fool to pick against Djokovic. Nieminen will be exhausted after such a draining opening match, which gives him zero chance to even steal a set here.
