Sabine Lisicki and Christina McHale meet Thursday in the second round of the 2015 Wimbledon.
Sabine Lisicki is coming off a straight sets victory over Jarmila Gajdosova, a match that lasted just over an hour. Lisicki got 46 percent of her first serves in play and won 70 percent of those points. Lisicki won 83 percent of her net points and 50 percent of her second serve points. Lisicki hit eight aces, 24 winners and had 15 unforced errors. Lisicki must do a better job of getting her first serves in play, as she also had seven double faults in her opening match. Still, Lisicki is deadly on grass and is a threat if she can keep her errors down. Lisicki has reached at least the third round in three of her last four grand slam events. Lisicki has made at least the quarterfinals in her last four WImbledon appearances.

Christina McHale is coming off a straight sets win over Johanna Larsson, which was decided in less than an hour. McHale got 64 percent of her first serves in play and won 64 percent of those points. McHale won 80 percent of her net points and 79 percent of her second serve points. McHale hit one ace, 11 winners and had 11 unforced errors. McHale looked extremely sharp in her opening match and could continue success if she limits her unforced errors. Still, McHale’s confidence can’t get rattled if she gets off to a poor start. McHale hasn’t reached the third round of a grand slam since the 2013 U.S. Open. McHale has reached the third round of the Wimbledon once in her career.
This will be the second time these two have met, as Lisicki won their only previous meeting in the 2011 Germany vs. USA. This will also be the first time these two have met on grass.
If Lisicki is going to continue struggling with her first serve, I give McHale a real shot to win this match outright. However, just to play it safe, I’m taking the points. McHale is going to have a breakthrough at a grand slam eventually, and I expect her to play this match tough.
