Marin Cilic and Denis Kudla meet in the fourth round of the 2015 Wimbledon.
Marin Cilic is coming off a five set victory over John Isner, which didn’t end until Saturday morning. Cilic has played 10 sets and more than eight hours of tennis in his last two matches. Cilic is winning at least 80 percent of his first serve points and 50 percent of his second serve points. Cilic has combined for 78 aces overall and 60-plus winners in each of his last two matches. Cilic continues to hit his shots and overwhelm his opponent with power and creative winners, but you may have to start questioning fatigue at this point given the length of his recent matches. Cilic has been eliminated in the fourth round of a grand slam in six of his last eight appearances. Cilic made the quarterfinals of last year’s Wimbledon.

Denis Kudla is fresh off a five set win over Santiago Giraldo, which finished in just under three hours. Kudla has played 14 sets this tournament and is winning at least 75 percent of his first serve points. Kudla is winning at least 54 percent of his second serve points and has hit 39 aces overall. Kudla has combined for 93 winners in his last two matches and is winning at least 68 percent of his net points. The one concern with Kudla is that he has combined for 81 unforced errors in his last two matches, a number that must improve heading into this match. This will be Kudla’s first appearance in the fourth round of a grand slam. Kudla never made it out of the second round to this point.
This will be the first time these two play against one another.
Kudla is hitting enough winners to make this a competitive match, however, he doesn’t have nearly enough experience or the skill level yet to outmatch Cilic at his own game. I think Kudla could luck himself into a set but that’s pretty much about it.
