Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova square off Thursday in the semifinal of the 2015 Wimbledon.

Serena Williams is coming off a three set win over Victoria Azarenka, which finished in two hours. Serena has dropped two sets this tournament and has played three hours of tennis her last two matches. Serena is winning at least 71 percent of her first serve points and 56 of her second serve points. Serena has combined for 27 aces and 82 winners in her last two matches. Serena has also had 13 or less unforced errors in her last two matches. Serena has been a little shaky in two of her last three matches, but she’s remained in control and has been dominant when needed. Serena hasn’t been eliminated in the semifinal of a grand slam since the 2009 U.S. Open. Serena looks to reach her eighth Wimbledon final of her career.

Serena Williams vs. Maria Sharapova 2015 Wimbledon Tennis Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Maria Sharapova is off a three set win over Coco Vandeweghe, which took more than two and a half hours. Sharapova has dropped just one set this tournament and played more than four hours her last two matches. Sharapova is winning at least 72 percent of her first serve points and 29 percent of her second serve points. Sharapova has combined for 10 aces and 45 winners in her last two matches. Sharapova has been automatic when getting her first serve in play, and she’s been in control of every match this tournament. However, 20-plus unforced errors in two of her three matches should be worrisome for Sharapova. This will be Sharapova’s fifth semifinal appearance of a grand slam since 2013. Sharapova looks to reach her third Wimbledon final of her career.

These two have met 19 times in the past, and Serena has won 17 of those meetings. Serena has beaten Sharapova in 16 straight meetings, including the most recent match in this year’s Australian Open. Sharapova hasn’t beaten Serena since 2004, and she hasn’t even won a set since 2013, which means five straight wins for Serena in straight sets.

While Sharapova is always a threat to beat anybody, there’s simply nothing to justify picking against Serena.
