Richard Gasquet is coming off a marathon five set match over Stan Wawrinka, which took three and a half hours. Gasquet has dropped three sets this tournament and has combined for over six hours of tennis his last two matches. Gasquet is winning at least 74 percent of his first serve points and 52 percent of his second serve points. Gasquet has combined for 25 aces and 113 winners in his last two matches. Gasquet showed great resolve in his last match and won the final two sets to pull off the biggest win of his career. Gasquet has combined for 45 unforced errors in his last two matches. This is just the third grand slam semifinal appearance of Gasquet’s career. Gasquet has never reached the final of a grand slam.
These two have played 13 times in the past, and Djokovic has won 12 of those meetings. The most recent match was in this year’s French Open, a match Djokovic won in straight sets. Djokovic has beaten Gasquet nine straight times and eight of them have come in straight sets. Gasquet’s only win over Djokovic came in the 2007 Tennis Masters Cup, and this will be the first time they play on grass.
You have to give Gasquet credit for the way he’s playing, as he’s made it farther than anyone expected and is playing some of his best tennis in years. However, he has to be gassed after Wednesday’s match, and Djokovic has shown no signs of giving his opponent a chance besides the match against Anderson. Look for Djokovic to win this rather easily.
