John Isner and Roger Federer meet in the fourth round of the 2015 US Open.

John Isner is coming off a two set match over Jiri Vesely after he retired, and he’s played eight sets this tournament. Isner is winning at least 84 percent of his first serve points and 52 percent of his second serve points. Isner has produced 62 aces, 145 winners and 61 unforced errors in his first three matches. We know all about Isner’s serve and the fact it gives him a fighting chance against anyone. For me, it’s the fact Isner has played just eight sets this tournament, which should make him a lot fresher than usual for this match. Isner has reached a grand slam quarterfinal just once, which was the 2011 US Open. This is Isner’s first fourth round appearance since last year’s French Open.

John Isner vs. Roger Federer 2015 US Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Roger Federer is coming off a straight sets win over Philipp Kohlschreiber and has played nine sets this tournament. Federer is winning at least 72 percent of his first serve points and 55 percent of his second serve points. Federer has produced 27 aces, 102 winners and 64 unforced errors in his first three matches. Federer has also done a great job of finishing matches and should have a lot in the tank for this contest. Federer continues to hit his spots and is making very little mistakes, making him dangerous moving forward. Federer has made at least the quarterfinals in five of his last seven grand slam appearances. Federer has been eliminated in the fourth round of a grand slam twice since 2013.

These two have played five times, and Federer has won four of those matches. The most recent match was in the 2012 Summer Olympics, a match Federer won in straight sets. Isner’s only win over Federer came in the 2012 Switzerland vs. USA match. This will be the fourth time these two meet on hard court.

This is going to be a must-watch, as Federer was my pick to win the US Open, but a rested Isner could beat anybody on any given day with his serve. There’s value to picking Isner in this match and I almost guarantee he’ll take at least a set.

However, if you’re asking me to pick a winner, I can’t pick against Federer with his current form.
