Stan Wawrinka and Kevin Anderson meet in the quarterfinals of the 2015 US Open.

Stan Wawrinka is coming off a four set win over Donald Young and has played 13 sets this tournament. Wawrinka is winning at least 75 percent of his first serve points and 49 percent of his second serve points. Wawrinka has combined for 45 aces, 155 winners and 146 unforced errors in his last three matches. Wawrinka still has yet to play his best tennis, as he’s had no less than 32 unforced errors in a single match and is winning a low percentage on his second serve. Still, Wawrinka has dug deep each match and continues to use his power game to his advantage that eventually wears his opponent down. This is Wawrinka’s seventh grand slam quarterfinal appearance since 2014. Wawrinka hopes to make the second semifinal appearance of his career at the US Open.

Stan Wawrinka vs. Kevin Anderson 2015 Quarterfinal US Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Anderson is coming off a four set win over Andy Murray and has played 14 sets overall. Anderson is winning at least 79 percent of his first serve points and 42 percent of his second serve points. Anderson has combined for 62 aces, 182 winners and 104 unforced errors in his last two matches. Anderson is simply dominating his service game, especially when he gets his first serve in play. Anderson has always been dangerous with his serve, and he’s getting his first serve in play no worse than 62 percent of the time. The only concern with Anderson is fatigue at this point. This is Anderson’s first grand slam quarterfinal appearance of his career. Anderson now has six wins over top-10 players since 2014.

These two have played seven times in the past, and Wawrinka has won four of those meetings. The most recent match was this year at the Queen's Club Championships and Anderson won it in straight sets. In fact, Anderson has beaten Wawrinka in each of their last four meetings. Wawrinka’s last win over Anderson came in the 2013 Shanghai Masters. This will be the seventh time the two meet on hard court.

I’d give Anderson a shot to beat Wawrinka given their form and the history. However, Wawrinka has played very little this tournament while Anderson is coming off a match that took more than four hours to decide. I’m not sure Anderson has much left in the tank.

Wawrinka wins.
