TV: ESPN3, Tennis

Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych meet Sunday morning in the 2015 ATP World Tour Finals.

Roger Federer is coming off a loss to John Isner in the Paris Masters, which may not be a bad thing considering it gave him extra rest. Overall, Federer has won 10 of his last 13 singles matches and is easily playing some of his best tennis we’ve seen in years. In fact, Federer has 11 wins over top-10 players this season and has participated in 10 final appearances. Federer looks healthy, is moving well and is hitting his spots with effortless accuracy. The only real concern is that Federer is leaving the door open at times, as five of his last eight matches have gone the distance. Federer has reached the finals in four of his last five World Tour Finals, but he hasn’t won the tournament since 2011.

Roger Federer vs. Tomas Berdych 2015 ATP World Tour Finals Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Tomas Berdych is coming off a loss to Novak Djokovic in the Paris Masters but has won 10 of his last 13 singles matches overall. Berdych has done a great job of digging deep in his matches and is showing far more comfortably on his return and coming to the net. Berdych is becoming more of a balanced player, which is why he’s reached four finals since February, which includes wins in the Shenzhen Open and Stockholm Open. For the first time in a while, Berdych is a dangerous player entering this tournament, especially with his serve which has been on point nearly all season long. Berdych has made it out of the round robin stages of the World Tour Finals just once, which came in 2011.

These two have met 20 times, and Federer has beaten Berdych in 14 of those matches. The most recent match was in this year’s Rome Masters, a match Federer won in straight sets. Federer has beaten Berdych in three straight meetings, as his last loss was in Dubai in 2013. This will be the 13th time these two play on hard court.

Federer held his own recently against a better server in Isner, and he’s had plenty of time to rest up and make a strong run this week. While Berdych is playing great recently, Federer is the better player here, has history on his side and should get the victory.
