Adrian Mannarino and Guido Pella meet Thursday in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Nice Open.
Adrian Mannarino is coming off a straight sets win over Benoit Paire that took 15 games to decide. Mannarino has to enjoy the success he’s had in this tournament as he headed into it on a six-match singles losing streak when you include his qualifying for the Madrid Masters. Mannarino didn’t win a single match since Miami before playing this tournament, and now he lost just three games against a player ranked 21 in the world. Maybe this will help turn around Mannarino’s season which has featured very little highlights and a lot of painful struggles. Mannarino hasn’t won a quarterfinals match since this year's Noumea Challenger back in January.

Guido Pella is coming off a straight sets win over Donald Young that took 15 games to decide. Pella is also looking to build some confidence after splitting his last eight matches and heading into this tournament on a four-match losing streak. Pella is trying to find his way back into the top-50, as he was ranked 39th just a couple of months ago. And despite a poor record recently, Pella did take Nick Kyrgios to a tiebreak in Madrid and forced a three set match against Jack Sock in Rome. Pella has competed, but he now needs to start finishing the job and turning these matches into wins. Pella’s last victory in the quarterfinals took place in Rio De Janeiro this season.
This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.
Both of these guys could use a big victory here for their confidence moving forward. However, Pella is far more experienced and has played the better tennis in losses. Mannarino will have his hands full.
Expect Pella to advance to the semifinals.
