TV:

Pablo Carreno-Busta and Stan Wawrinka meet in the quarterfinals of the Geneva Open.

Pablo Carreno-Busta is coming off a straight sets win over Inigo Cervantes that took 18 games to decide. Carreno-Busta has won both of his matches this tournament in straight sets and has won seven of his last nine singles matches overall. Carreno-Busta is in good form right now and having his breakout season, as he’s made two final appearances this season and his current ranking of 43rd in the world is as high as it’s ever been in his young career at 24 years old. A win over a top-10 player here would certainly be the biggest victory of Carreno-Busta’s career up to this point. Carreno-Busta is certainly a guy to keep an eye on moving forward.

Pablo Carreno-Busta vs. Stan Wawrinka 2016 Geneva Open Quarterfinals Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Stan Wawrinka is coming off a straight sets win over Albert Ramos-Vinolas that took 14 games to decide. Wawrinka needed a bounce back performance after heading into this tournament with losses in three of his last four matches. Wawrinka has been a little off lately and his unforced errors have piled up big time. However, Wawrinka looked sharp and didn’t waste much time in his last much, as he’s gearing up to defend his crown at the French Open. If hitting his spots, there’s no reason Wawrinka shouldn’t win this tournament before the big major. Wawrinka is now 2-1 throughout his career in the Geneva Open.

These two have played once, which was in the 2013 Portugal Open, a match Wawrinka won in three sets. This will be the second time these two meet on clay court.

Carreno-Busta took Wawrinka to three sets a few years ago, and he’s nowhere as polished as he was back then. There’s potential for an upset here. However, Wawrinka is easily the better player and has to take this tournament seriously given his current form overall.

I like Wawrinka to advance to the semifinals.
