Marin Cilic and Stan Wawrinka meet Saturday in the Final of the 2016 Geneva Open.

Marin Cilic is coming off a straight sets win over David Ferrer that took 24 games to decide. Cilic seems to have found his form after a slow start to 2016, and he’s won eight of his last 10 matches overall. Cilic’s last four wins have come in straight sets, and he’s doing a wonderful job of holding serve and hitting his spots. Cilic doesn’t exactly love clay court, but he’s looked sharp for someone who hasn’t played since the Miami Masters. This is Cilic’s second final appearance of the season and looks for his first title since the 2015 Kremlin Cup. Cilic is 8-3 in his last 11 final appearances and is 1-3 in his career on clay court.

Marin Cilic vs. Stan Wawrinka 2016 Geneva Open Final Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Stan Wawrinka is coming off a three set victory over Lukas Rosol that took 27 games to decide. Wawrinka is picking up much needed steam heading into the French Open and has now won 10 of his last 15 singles matches. Wawrinka is making far less errors in this tournament and has been more consistent with his service game as well. Wawrinka has looked shaky at times this season but looks good enough now to defend his title in Paris. This is the third final appearance of the season for Wawrinka, and he’s won his last nine final appearances. Wawrinka is 5-5 in final appearances in his career on clay court.

These two have played 11 times, and Wawrinka has won nine of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2015 Shanghai Masters, a match Wawrinka won in three sets. Cilic’s only win over Wawrinka came in the 2010 Australian Open and 2010 Chennai Open. This will be the fifth time these two meet on clay court.

Wawrinka has owned Cilic throughout their careers, and he hasn’t lost a final since the 2013 Rosmalen Championships. So, while Cilic has looked great and coming off an impressive win over Ferrer, I have to side with the trends.

Wawrinka wins his 10th straight final appearance.
