Kvitova vs. Hsieh
the Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Su-Wei Hsieh and Petra Kvitova square off early in the second round of the 2016 French Open.
Su-Wei Hsieh is coming off a straight sets win over Lara Arruabarrena that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Hsieh hit 36 winners and won 50 percent of her second serve points. As we’ve seen in the past, if Hsieh can hit her spots, she’s very tough to beat and it’s what made her a top-25 player back in 2013. Hsieh has now won six of her last 10 singles matches and could use a breakthrough win here after falling off the mp a tad the last couple of seasons. This is only Hsieh’s fifth grand slam appearance since 2014, so simply getting to the second round has to be an accomplishment for the 30-year-old. Hsieh has not made the third round of a grand slam since the 2012 Wimbledon.

Petra Kvitova is coming off a three set victory over Danka Kovinic that took 30 games to decide. In the victory, Kvitova won 71 percent of her first serve points and 44 percent of her second serve points. It was just a sloppy performance from Kvitova overall, as she had 10 double faults and 29 unforced errors. Kvitova has been trying to find her game since her semifinal appearance at the Stuttgart Open, as she’s 3-2 since that tournament. Of course, Kvitova is capable of getting back on track and is tough to play when she’s hitting her angles and using depth to her advantage. Kvitova has reached at least the third round of a grand slam in seven of her last eight appearances.
This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.
I’m a fan of Kvitova’s game, and the last couple of matches should wake her up and have her more focused for this contest. This is the first time Hsieh has made the second round of the French Open, and it’s been quite some time since she’s beaten a real quality player.
Even in her shaky form, Kvitova should be able to win this match, especially if she cleans her game up just a little bit.
