TV:

Andrey Kuznetsov and Kei Nishikori square off in the second round of the 2016 French Open.

Andrey Kuznetsov is coming off a straight sets win over Benjamin Becker that took 26 games to decide. Kuznetsov won 82 percent of his first serve points in the victory and had just 21 unforced errors. If Kuznetsov can play that clean in this match, he’ll certainly have a chance at the upset. Kuznetsov has been playing solid tennis as of late, as he made the quarterfinals of Geneva and Barcelona, and his current top-40 ranking is as high as it’s been in his career. Kuznetsov has made at least the third round of a grand slam in four of his last five appearances. Kuznetsov has two career wins over top-10 players, which includes a win over Stan Wawrinka this season.

Andrey Kuznetsov vs. Kei Nishikori 2016 French Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Kei Nishikori is coming off a straight sets win over Simone Bolelli that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Nishikori won 80 percent of his first serve points and 59 percent of his second serve points. Nishikori is dangerous when hitting his spots and not beating himself, as he had just 17 unforced errors. Nishikori will make a deep, deep run this tournament if he’s able to keep his errors under 20 most matches. Nishikori continues to be in great form, as he’s now won 11 of his last 14 matches and is hungry to continue his recent success in grand slams. Nishikori has been eliminated before the third round of a grand slam twice since 2014.

These two met once in the past back in the 2010 Eastbourne International, a match Kuznetsov won due to Nishikori retiring in the second set. The two played 14 games before Kei called the match. This will obviously be the first time these two meet on clay.

Kuznetsov is starting to find his groove a bit and could pull off the upset if he continues to play at this level. However, the athleticism of Nishikori is likely going to be too much, as he’s forcing guys to make the extra shot and work hard for their points. He’s just in terrific form at the moment.

Nishikori should advance in possibly four sets.
