Gabashvili vs. Isner
the Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
John Isner and Teymuraz Gabashvili square off in the third round of the 2016 French Open.
John Isner is coming off a straight sets win over Kyle Edmund that took 30 games to decide. In the victory, Isner won 86 percent of his first serve points and 67 percent of his second serve points. Isner looked sharp for somebody who pretty much had to play two matches in two days, and he finally had a quick match that wasn’t taxing on the body. There’s no surprises with Isner, as he has 58 aces and 125 winners in his first two matches. When Isner gets his first serve in play, he’s as tough to beat as anybody in the tournament. That’s the key to the American making a deep grand slam run. Isner looks to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the third straight time.

Teymuraz Gabashvili is coming off a four set win over Benoit Paire that took 24 games to decide. In the victory, Gabashvili won 79 percent of his first serve points and 48 percent of his second serve points. Gabashvili has to be confident after dominating a top-20 player in which he lost three or less games in three of the four sets played. Gabashvili has a combined 86 winners and 49 unforced errors in his first two matches. As long as Gabashvili isn’t hurting himself and keeping his errors to a minimum, he’ll have a chance to make a sneaky run in this tournament. Gabashvili has made the fourth round of a grand slam twice, which took place in the French Open (2010 and 2015).
These two have played three times in the past, and Gabashvili has won two of those meetings. The most recent match was in Houston last year, a match Gabashvili won in straight sets. Isner’s win came in the 2014 Madrid Masters, and the other match took place in Delray Beach in 2011.
With the way Isner looked in his second round match, I have a hard time thinking Gabashvili can get the victory. Isner is just too strong with his service game and the power should give Gabashvili problems.
Look for Isner to reach his third straight fourth round grand slam appearance.
