Simona Halep and Samantha Stosur meet in the fourth round of the 2016 French Open.
Simona Halep is coming off a three set win over Naomi Osaka that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Halep won 57 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points. Halep didn’t play at well in her third round match, as her service game was very inconsistent and she had 22 unforced errors to 23 winners. Still, Halep dug deep and was able to win the final two sets while losing just five games. Halep has to be better with her first serve if she’s going to make a push for her first grand slam title. Halep hopes to make the quarterfinals for the sixth time in her last 10 grand slam appearances. Halep hopes to make the quarters of the French Open for the second time.

Samantha is coming off a three set win over Lucie Safarova that took 34 games to decide. In the victory, Stosur won 72 percent of her first serve points and 56 percent of her second serve points. Stosur continues to win a very high percentage of her first serve points and has racked up 49 winners in her last two matches. Stosur is riding a wave of momentum, as she’s now won 10 of her last 13 matches and could be a top-20 player by the end of this tournament. Stosur is dangerous due to her consistent serve that’s putting pressure on her opponents. Stosur hopes to reach her first quarterfinal of a grand slam since the 2012 US Open. Stosur looks for her fourth career quarterfinal appearance in the French Open.
These two have split their previous six meetings. However, Halep has beaten Stosur in the last three meetings, including the most recent match in this year's Madrid Masters. Stosur's last win over Halep came in the 2012 Canadian Masters. This will be the fourth time they meet on clay.
Halep hasn’t lost to Stosur ever since improving her game and turning the corner in her career. Again, I’m a big fan of Halep’s game and still think she’s the biggest threat to Serena.
Halep in straight sets.
