TV:

Dominic Thiem and Marcel Granollers meet in the fourth round of the 2016 French Open.

Dominic Thiem is coming off a four set win over Alexander Zverev that was decided in 40 games to decide. In the victory, Thiem won 72 percent of his first serve points and 63 percent of his second serve points. Thiem has won no less than 70 percent of his first serve points and has racked up 88 winners in his last two matches. Thiem could limit his unforced errors a tad, but overall he’s playing very good tennis and hitting his spots when he needs to most. Thiem hopes to make the quarterfinals of a grand slam for the first time in his career. Thiem could soon become a top-10 player for the first time. This is Thiem’s second time playing in the fourth round of a grand slam and first since the 2014 US Open.

Dominic Thiem vs. Marcel Granollers 2016 French Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Marcel Granollers didn’t have to play a third round match due to Rafael Nadal withdrawing because of a wrist injury. Granollers should be very well rested for this match considering he’s played just 18 games since the first round, as Nicolas Mahut retired early third set in the second round. Still, in limited playing time, Granollers has produced 50 winners and is coming off a match in which he got 66 percent of his first serves in play. Granollers has just 23 unforced errors in over five sets of tennis, and he has to be confident heading into this match. Granollers hopes to make the quarterfinals of a grand slam for the first time in his career. This is Granollers’ second grand slam fourth round appearance since the 2013 season.

These two have played three times in the past, and Thiem has won all three meetings. The most recent match was in the 2014 Kitzbuhel Open, a match Thiem won in straight sets. This will be the fourth time these two meet on clay.

Even with Granollers having the biggest advantage, Thiem is in better form overall and has the impressive head to head advantage. It’s also fair to say that Thiem has improved his play the last couple of years and is only getting better.

Give me Thiem to advance in four sets.
