Ernests Gulbis and David Goffin square off in the fourth round of the 2016 French Open.
Ernests Gulbis is coming off a win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga after he retired seven games into the match. In the victory, Gulbis won 57 percent of his first serve points and 33 percent of his second serve points. Gulbis was losing the match 2-5 in the first set and already had 10 unforced errors before Tsonga suffered a groin or leg injury. Gulbis has now played just seven sets of tennis to get to this point and has racked up 119 winners this tournament. Gulbis has now won 15 of his last 20 sets played overall. Gulbis looks for his third quarterfinal grand slam appearance. Gulbis made the quarters in the 2008 and 2014 French Open.

David Goffin is coming off a five set win over Nicolas Almagro that took 45 games to decide. In the victory, Goffin won 73 percent of his first serve points and 57 percent of his second serve points. Goffin continues to impress with his service game, as he’s won at least 72 percent of his first serve points and no less than 57 percent of his second serve points. Goffin has racked up 79 winners in his last two matches and is coming off a match in which he had 10 aces. Goffin looks really sharp and confident as he looks to crack the top-10 for the first time. Goffin hopes to make his first grand slam quarterfinal. This will be the fourth time Goffin has played in the fourth round of a grand slam.
These two have split the only two previous meetings between them. Gulbis won the match in the 2014 Acapulco Open and Goffin won in the 2015 Madrid Masters. Both matches were decided in three sets. This will be the second time these two meet on clay.
Even though Gulbis has the rest advantage given the Tsonga situation, you have to like Goffin in this match with the way he’s been hitting the ball. The 25-year-old is playing some of his best tennis at the moment and is simply hitting his spots.
Goffin won the last match against Gulbis, and I see him winning this one as well.
