Timea Bacsinszky and Venus Williams meet in the fourth round of the 2016 French Open.

Timea Bacsinszky is coming off a straight sets win over Pauline Parmentier that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Bacsinszky won 62 percent of her first serve points and 60 percent second serve points. Bacsinszky has yet to drop a set this tournament and has lost no more than four games in a single set. Bacsinszky is getting at least 81 percent of her first serves in play and has produced 38 winners in her last two matches. Bacsinszky must trim her unforced errors if she hopes to make an even deeper run, but it’s hard to argue with somebody who has won 12 of her last 15 sets. Bacsinszky hopes to make the quarterfinals of a grand slam in three of her last five appearances. Bacsinszky has a shot at back-to-back French Open quarterfinals.

Timea Bacsinszky vs. Venus Williams 2016 French Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Venus Williams is coming off a three set victory over Alizé Cornet that took 26 games to decide. In the victory, Venus won 67 percent of her first serve points and 66 percent of her second serve points. Venus is moving very well on the court and has produced 49 winners in her last two matches. Venus has also won no less than 67 percent of her first serve points in her three matches. Venus is playing some very sharp tennis overall and isn’t beating herself with so many unforced errors that we’re used to seeing from her recently. Venus looks for her third grand slam quarterfinal appearance since the 2015 season. Venus has a shot at her sixth career French Open quarterfinal and first since 2006.

These two have played twice in the past, and Venus won both matches in straight sets. The matches took place in the 2014 US Open and 2008 Olympics. Bacsinszky has managed to win 10 games against Venus in four sets overall. This will be the first match on clay.

The history between these two doesn’t mean much given the small sample size and the the fact they haven’t played in two years. While both are playing well, I give the edge to Bacsinszky. She’s been stronger with her service game and has been riding a wave of momentum for the last several weeks.

Not sure if this is an upset or not, but I like Bacsinszky to advance to the quarterfinals.
