Andy Murray vs. Richard Gasquet 2016 French Open Quarterfinal Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Richard Gasquet is coming off a four set win over Kei Nishikori that took 36 games to decide. In the victory, Gasquet won 73 percent of his first serve points and 66 percent of his second serve points. Gasquet has racked up 65 winners in his last two matches and has won no less than 73 percent of his first serve points in his last three matches. Gasquet has also had 19 or less unforced errors in three of his four matches and has lost just 24 games in his last two matches. Gasquet is simply playing impressive tennis right now and looks like a legit top-10 player at this very moment. Gasquet has a shot for his fourth career grand slam semifinal appearance and first since the 2015 Wimbledon. Gasquet has never made the semifinals of the French Open.

These two have met 10 times in the past, and Murray has won seven of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2015 Paris Masters, a match Murray won in three sets. Murray has won the last five meetings, and Gasquet’s last win came in the 2012 Rome Masters. This will be the fourth match on clay court.

I’m very impressed with the way Gasquet is playing right now, as he’s killing the ball, gaining confidence and has the clear crowd support. However, Murray has owned Gasquet over the years and is in slightly better form overall. After all, Murray has won his last nine matches and has his eyes set on a possible first French Open title.

This one could go either way, but I have Murray winning a close one.
