Alison Riske vs. Anett Kontaveit 2016 Aegon Open Quarterfinals Pick, Odds, Prediction

Kontaveit vs. Riske

June 2016

The Line Kontaveit +150 / Riske -170 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

Alison Riske and Anett Kontaveit meet in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Aegon Open.

Alison Riske is coming off a straight sets win over Su-Wei Hsieh that took 18 games to decide. Riske has lost just nine games in her first two matches and looks to be building on that ITF title she just won in Eastbourne. Riske has now dropped just one set in her last seven matches and is looking more and more like the player who was ranked in the top-40 a couple of years ago. Riske is playing some of her best tennis in a while and is a very dangerous player when hitting her spots. Riske hopes to make her fourth semifinal appearance of the season. Riske has won her last seven matches on grass court.

Alison Riske vs. Anett Kontaveit 2016 Aegon Open Quarterfinals Pick, Odds, Prediction

Anett Kontaveit is coming off a three set win over Caroline Wozniacki that took 34 games to decide. Kontaveit needed a monster victory over a top player, as she came into this tournament losing four of her last five matches. Kontaveit was able to dig deep and win the final two sets after dropping a first set tiebreak. At just 20 years old, Kontaveit continues to show flashes of being something great, and she has a shot to become a top-70 player for the first time in her young career. It’s only a matter of time before people start to notice  Kontaveit on the big stage. Kontaveit hopes to make her second semifinal appearance of the season. Kontaveit has won 16 of her last 19 matches on grass court.

These two have met once in the past, which was in this year's Shenzhen Open, a match Riske won in three sets. The match took 25 games to decide. This will be their first match on grass.

I’m going to go with the upset here and pick Kontaveit to win this match. She pushed Riske in their only previous match and is in solid form right now after beating Wozniacki and pushing Venus Williams to two tiebreaks in the French Open. Kontaveit has also been on a grass surface tear with wins in 16 of his last 19 matches.

Look for Kontaveit to continue to turn heads.
