Mahut vs. Tomic

TV:

Bernard Tomic and Nicolas Mahut square off in the quarterfinals at the 2016 Ricoh Open.

Bernard Tomic is coming off a straight sets win over Aljaz Bedene that took 19 games to decide. Tomic appears to be a guy who is just trying to find his form, as he’s now won just three matches since the Indian Wells Masters. Tomic has been dealing with a wrist injury and the losses piling up certainly doesn’t help his confidence. However, Tomic looked sharp in his last match and should be able to get back on track once his consistent serve returns. Tomic hopes to make his third semifinal appearance this season. Tomic has split his last 10 matches on grass court.

Bernard Tomic vs. Nicolas Mahut 2016 Ricoh Open Quarterfinals Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Nicolas Mahut is coming off a three set win over Paul-Henri Mathieu that took 27 games to decide. Mahut has muscled his way through his last two matches but is still a guy who has lost eight of his last 13 matches overall. Mahut of course won this title last season and it's his only singles title since the 2013 season. Mahut may be shaky at times with his style of play, but he’s always a threat on grass, easily his favorite surface to play. If Mahut can find a way to repeat at this tournament, he’ll soon find himself as a top-40 player in the world again. Mahut hopes to make his second semifinal appearance this season. Mahut has now won 11 of his last 12 matches on grass court.

These two have split the previous two meetings, as Mahut won the 2011 Paris Masters and Tomic won this year's Brisbane International. Both matches were decided in straight sets, and this will be their first meeting on grass court.

Neither player is in their best form and Tomic may have the advantage considering he’s beaten Mahut already this year. However, Mahut thrives on grass and is the defending champion in this tournament. We’re getting even money with the better grass player, I’ll take it.

Give me Mahut in three sets.
