David Goffin vs. Sergiy Stakhovsky 2016 Gerry Weber Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

Stakhovsky vs. Goffin

June 2016

The Line Stakhovsky +250 / Goffin -300 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

David Goffin and Sergiy Stakhovsky meet in the round of 16 in the 2016 Gerry Weber Open.

David Goffin is coming off a three set victory over Borna Coric that took 36 games to decide. Goffin was able to survive a long match that resulted in tiebreaks in the first two sets. Goffin continues to impress during a stretch in which he's won eight of his last 10 matches, which includes a quarterfinal appearance in the French Open. Goffin has really turned things around since his early exit in the Madrid Masters, and he’s playing some of his most consistent tennis of the year. If Goffin can continue this consistent stretch, he has a real chance to become a top-10 player for the first time in his career. Goffin has won seven of his last 10 matches on grass.

David Goffin vs. Sergiy Stakhovsky 2016 Gerry Weber Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

Sergiy Stakhovsky is coming off a three set victory over Denis Kudla that took 31 games to decide. Stakhovsky hopes he can use this recent surge to turn his season around, as he’s won six of his last seven matches when you include qualifying. Stakhovsky did win the Seoul Challenger recently but has really struggled in ATP events lately, which include early exits in Miami and Stuttgart. Stakhovsky has shown he’s more than capable of playing at a high level when his return game is clicking. Stakhovsky has to be aggressive and get off to a strong start early in order to build confidence. Stakhovsky has won eight of his last 10 matches on grass.

These two have met twice in the past, and Goffin won both matches. The two meetings took place in this year's Australian Open and the 2014 Ukraine vs. Belgium. Stakhovsky managed to win one set in both matches.

It’s been awhile since Stakhovsky was relevant on the big stage, and he hasn’t shown much recently to give confidence that he can beat a hot Goffin. The Belgian is on a mission to crack the top-10 and has a chance to really establish himself with more consistent deep tournament runs.

I’ll side with Goffin to win in three sets.
