Sela vs. Ferrer

The Line -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

TV: ESPN

David Ferrer and Dudi Sela square off early in the first round of the 2016 Wimbledon.

David Ferrer hopes to find his form rather quickly after losing three of his last four matches, which includes a first round exit at the Gerry Weber Open. Ferrer usually doesn’t have bizarre stretches like this due to how difficult he is to beat, as he simply outworks his opponent and plays with tremendous heart. Ferrer is never the most talented player in the field, but his work ethic and stamina gives him an advantage in grand slam matches that tend to last more than two hours. It will be interesting to see how Ferrer looks early, as it’ll be an indication of things to come given his current form. Ferrer hasn’t lost in the first round of a grand slam since the 2005 Wimbledon. Ferrer has lost four of his last five matches on grass.

David Ferrer vs. Dudi Sela 2016 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Dudi Sela hopes to make it out of the first round of the Wimbledon for the first time since 2011, and he’s double dipping with his partner Stephane Robert. Sela enters this tournament splitting his last 10 matches, but he’s had some recent success to build upon. Sela just reached the Karshi Challenger final and made the quarterfinals of the Aegon Open before losing to Andreas Seppi in three sets. Sela has to be confident heading into this tournament and is a dangerous first round opponent due to his aggressive offensive game. Sela has made it past the first round of a grand slam four times since 2014. Sela has split his last eight matches on grass.

These two have played three times in the past, and Ferrer leads the series, 2-1. The most recent match was in this year's Ricoh Open, a match Ferrer won in 20 games. Sela’s win came in the 2008 China Open. This will be their second match on grass.

This is no easy match for Ferrer given his current form and the fact Sela is an experienced player who has an effective offensive game. If Sela gets off to a fast start, this could be a major first round upset. However, I give Ferrer the benefit of the doubt, as he doesn’t go down easily.

Give me Ferrer in four sets.
