Serena Williams vs. Christina McHale 2016 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

McHale vs. Serena

June 2016

The Line -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

TV: ESPN

Serena Williams and Christina McHale square off early in the second round of the 2016 Wimbledon.

Serena Williams is coming off a straight sets win over Amra Sadikovic that took about an hour and 15 minutes. In the victory, Serena won 33 of her 55 first serve points and racked up 19 winners and 18 unforced errors. Serena continues her dominance, as she’s now won 24 of her last 27 sets and is still hungry for her 22nd career grand slam title. Serena still isn’t hitting the ball with her usual power, but she’s playing clean tennis for the most part and finishing her points quickly despite the lack of consistent power shots. Serena has been eliminated before the third round of a grand slam just once since 2013. Serena has won eight straight matches on grass.

Serena Williams vs. Christina McHale 2016 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Christina McHale is coming off a straight sets win over Daniela Hantuchova that took an hour and a half. In the victory, McHale won 33 of her 57 first serve points and racked up 16 winners and 11 unforced errors. McHale looked sharp in her opening match and was able to take advantage of her opponents 37 unforced errors. McHale has shown flashes of being a rising American tennis player but hasn’t quite been able to get over the hump, especially in gardens alm play. A victory here would certainly put more attention on the 24-year-old who is currently a top-70 player in the world. McHale looks to make the third round of a grand slam for the first time since the 2013 US Open. McHale has won six of her last eight matches on grass.

These two have played twice in the past and Serena won both meetings. The two matches took place in this year's Miami and Rome Masters. McHale has won one set against Serena in two matches.

McHale is no stranger to beating quality opponents, but Serena in a grand slam is tough to bet against. Well, at least until we get to the final. McHale just isn’t consistent enough and doesn’t have the shotmaking skills to overpower the top player in the world.

Give me Serena in straight sets.
