Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight sets win over Radek Stepanek that took 18 games to decide. Djokovic has bounced back nicely from his early exit in the Wimbledon and has lost just 17 games in his first two matches. Djokovic has lost just two matches since the Madrid Masters and doesn’t look like he’s letting go of the top spot in the world anytime soon. Tomas Berdych is coming off a three set win over Ryan Harrison that took 33 games to decide. Berdych has played six sets in his last two matches and has a chance to beat his third top-10 player this season. Berdych hasn’t always been the most consistent player this year, but he’s a real threat when he’s serving well and using his power game to his advantage. Berdych obviously needs to play clean tennis to have any chance in this match. Berdych has lost four of his last five quarterfinal appearances. Berdych has won eight of his last 10 matches on hard court.
These two have played 26 times in the past and Djokovic has won 24 of those meetings. The most recent match was in this year's French Open, a match Djokovic won in straight sets. Berdych’s only victories over Djokovic came in the 2013 Rome Masters and 2010 Wimbledon.
Djokovic is usually the pick regardless of who he plays and that certainly doesn’t change here given the history between these two players. Djokovic has beaten Berdych in 11 straight tries.
Give me Djokovic in straight sets.
