The Line -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Roberto Bautista Agut and Andrey Kuznetsov meet in the first round of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
Roberto Bautista Agut has had plenty of time to rest up for this match after not playing since his third round exit at Wimbledon. Bautista Agut continues to hang around that top-20 ranking, but he continues to struggle getting over the hump and doesn’t have a ton of success against above-average players. Bautista Agut does have two titles this season and has shown flashes of greatness, but you’d simply like to see more consistency from the 28-year-old. It’ll be interesting to see how Bautista Agut handles his first olympic appearance. Bautista Agut has won 10 of his last 14 matches on hard court.
USA TODAY Sports
Andrey Kuznetsov hopes to find a groove quickly after being bounced in the first round of the Canadian Masters and losing three of his last five matches. Kuznetsov has also been hit or miss this season as he’s split his last 18 matches and has had a hard time putting together a complete match. Kuznetsov will look good one set and then drop the next set by winning just one or two games. Kuznetsov is a promising player who just turned 25 years old, but he has to improve his game on the ATP tour if he really hopes to take that next step. This will be Kuznetsov’s first olympic appearance, although he did win gold in doubles play in the 2013 Universiade. Kuznetsov has won seven of his last 11 matches on hard court.
These two have met once in the past, which was in the 2014 Kremlin Cup, a match Bautista Agut won in straight sets.
I really want to side with Kuznetsov simply because he has the ability to be the surprise in this tournament. However, you can’t given his current form. Bautista Agut is the more polished player and should be able to take advantage of Kuznetsov’s sloppiness at times.
I like Bautista Agut in a match that could go three sets.
