The Line -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Petra Kvitova and Madison Keys meet in the bronze medal match of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
Petra Kvitova is coming off a three set loss to Monica Puig that took 26 games to decide. Kvitova showed great resolve by winning the second set 6-1, but in the end Puig has simply been playing out of her mind all tournament. Kvitova has lost just two sets this tournament and has now won 15 of her last 22 sets overall. However, in order to avoid back-to-back losses, Kvitova has to be more consistent with her service game. A win here and Kvitova would join Jana Novotná as the only Czech to win an olympic medal in tennis. Kvitova has won 10 of her last 14 matches on hard court.
USA TODAY Sports
Madison Keys is coming off a straight sets loss to Angelique Kerber that took 21 games to decide. Keys had plenty of chances to break and take control of the match but just wasn't able to finish the job. Keys also had plenty of unforced errors, something that she was able to put in the past during her hot streak. Still, Keys is playing impressive tennis overall and has to like her chances of bringing home a medal. Keys hopes to have an American woman win an olympic medal for the fourth time in the last six appearances. Keys has won 12 of her last 15 matches on hard court.
These two have split their previous four meetings. Keys wn the most recent match in this year's Rome Masters, a match that was decided in straight sets. Kvitova beat Keys in both matches in 2015, while Keys won the other match in the 2013 Tokyo Open.
Keys was impressive against Kerber but just wasn’t able to finish break chances, which ultimately cost her the match. Kvitova was sloppy against Puig and has been kind of hit or miss overall. It’s easier to have more trust in Keys and her ability to rise to the occasion.
Give me Keys to win the bronze medal.
