Serena Williams and Johanna Larsson meet in the third round of the 2016 US Open.
Serena Williams is coming off a straight sets win over Vania King that took 18 games to decide. Serena is still showing no signs of a banged up shoulder, as she’s lost just 12 games in her first two matches and is serving very efficiently. Serena is coming off a match in which she won 83 percent of her first serve points and racked up 13 aces. As long as those numbers keep up, it’s going to be tough to beat the top women's player in the world. Serena hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the ninth straight try. Serena has won 11 of her last 14 matches on hard court.

Johanna Larsson is coming off a straight sets win over Denisa Allertova that took 14 games to decide. Larsson has also yet to drop a set this tournament and has lost just 10 games in her first two matches. Larsson is playing some of her best tennis in years, as she made the semifinals in New Haven the and has won 10 of her last 12 sets played overall. Larsson also has a couple of victories over top-10 players, so she should be rather confident heading into this match. Larsson hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time in her career. Larsson has won seven of her last nine matches on hard court.
These two have met twice and Serena has won both meetings in straight sets. The most recent match was in Bastad back in 2013. Larsson has won just nine games against Serena in two matches.
Serena continues to look healthy and is hitting the ball well right now. Given the history between these two and their current form, no reason why Serena doesn’t win this in straight sets.
Serena to the fourth round.
