TV: ESPN

Marcos Baghdatis and Gael Monfils meet in the fourth round of the 2016 US Open.

Marcos Baghdatis is coming off a four set win over Ryan Harrison that took 36 games to decide. In the victory, Baghdatis won 69 percent of his first serve points and 55 percent of his second serve points. Baghdatis was in control of the match from the beginning and was able to silence the American crowd by winning the final set by a score of 6-1. It’s been awhile since Baghdatis has had any real grand slam success, so this run is kind of surprising. However, Baghdatis has a shot to make a deeper run if he continues to return as well as he has lately. Baghdatis hopes to make his first grand slam quarterfinal since the 2007 Wimbledon. Baghdatis has won six of his last nine matches on hard court.

Marcos Baghdatis vs. Gael Monfils 2016 US Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Gael Monfils is coming off a straight sets win over Nicolas Almagro that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Monfils won 86 percent of his first serve points and 42 percent of his second serve points. Monfils has yet to drop a set this tournament and continues to play with that laser focus that has pushed him towards the edge of being a top-10 player again. Monfils is hitting his spots, serving extremely well and making lesser dumb mistakes that have hurt him in the past. Take away a retirement in Cincinnati and Monfils has won eight of his last nine matches. Monfils hopes to make his third grand slam quarterfinal since 2014. Monfils has won eight of his last 10 matches on hard court.

These two have met three times in the past and Monfils has won two of those meetings. The most recent match was in this year's Cincinnati Masters, a match Monfils won in straight sets. Baghdatis’ only win over Monfils came in the 2006 Cincinnati Masters.

You guys know I’ve been backing Monfils all season long, as this new and improved player has paid off big time. He’s no longer doing foolish antics to please the crowd and is more focused on winning points. That continues, the older Baghdatis doesn’t stand much of a chance.

Look for Monfils to make his second grand slam quarterfinal this season.
