Kei Nishikori vs. Andy Murray 2016 US Open Quarterfinal Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Andy Murray is coming off a straight sets win over Grigor Dimitrov that took 23 games to decide. In the victory, Murray won 79 percent of his first serve points and 54 percent of his second serve points. Murray just sliced and diced a top-25 player and the match lasted exactly two hours. If that match doesn’t show just how dialed in Murray has been the last few months, I’m not sure what will. Murray is just playing some out-of-this-world tennis that not too many are going to be able to match. Murray hopes to make his seventh grand slam semifinal in his last eight tries. This is Murray’s sixth career US Open quarterfinal appearance. Murray has won 14 of his last 15 matches on hard court.

These two have played eight times in the past and Murray has won seven of those meetings. The most recent match took place in this year's olympics, a match Murray won in straight sets. Nishikori’s only win over Murray took place in the 2014 ATP World Tour Finals.

Nishikori has a shot to win this match if he plays anywhere close to how he did Monday afternoon. However, you can’t expect that clean of a match once again. Murray continues to play his best tennis of his life and has been nothing but money for months now. He’s tough to fade.

Add in the history, and you have to like Murray to advance to the semifinals.
